FAQ - Winter 2009-10

Following are several questions that are asked repeatedly. We hope these may answer some of your questions. If not, please call us at (905) 849-9712

LOOKING TO PLAY SOME RECREATIONAL HOCKEY ???
Join us for fun, safe, well organized mens hockey in the Oakville/Burlington area. For the past 27 seasons we have been offering safe, friendly, well officiated hockey for players who wish to enter as individuals or small groups, not as an entire team. We offer both winter and summer leagues in a recreational format where all players play regardless of skill level. Everyone receives roughly the same ice time and you don't have to "try out" or "make" a team.

****FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS****

Q: How will I know if my application has been accepted?
A: If your cheque is cashed, you're in. For the 2009-10 season, players can expect a call from their team rep before October 15th. If you haven't received a call by October 15th,  please contact us at (905) 849-9712.
Q: When does the season start?
A: The 2009-10 winter season begins with exhibition games mid October. Regular season play begins immediately after the exhibition schedule.

Q: What calibre is the league?
A: It naturally depends on the players that enter each year but traditionally the teams would fit into the "C" or "D" level of most mens hockey leagues. Most players have played house league, while some have played competitive hockey in their earlier years.

Q: Are team entries permitted?
A: NO. We only accept individual entries. This allows the directors to make necessary moves to ensure balanced competition.

Q: Can I request to play with someone?
A: Yes, on the application form there is a space to include the name of one player you'd like to play with. These requests can almost always be accommodated if submitted before Sept 15th.

Q: Is there a minimum age to play?
A: Yes, you must be at least 30 years old.  We have divisions for 30+, 40+ and 50+.  The average age of players is about 40. Please note that Divisions have no upper age limit.

Q: Are officials provided?
A: Yes, two referees with adult hockey experience, a timekeeper and a convenor are at every game.

Q: Are uniforms provided?
A: YES. Sweater and matching socks are provided.

Q: Is this contact or non-contact hockey?
A: Non-contact and strictly enforced. We believe we are less tolerant of nuisance players and teams than most leagues because our players expect it.

Q: Are slapshots permitted?
A: NO. We believe that this encourages more playmaking and involves everyone more in the play.

Q: What nights are the games?
A: In the winter season, there are several divisions based on age and your preferred day to play:
Sunday morning Division - games between 8:30am -11:30am - minimum age 30 years
Sunday-Monday night Division - games on a combination of Sunday and Monday nights - minimum age 30 years
Classics Division- games primarily on Sunday mornings- minimum age 47 years
Masters Division - games primarily on Wednesday nights - minimum age 40 years
Q: What time are the games?
A: Games usually begin at 7, 8, 9 or 10pm except the Sunday morning division which plays from 7:30 to 11:30am.

Q: Where are the games played?
A: All games are at Appleby College Arena in Oakville.

Q: How many games are played?
A: Each team is guaranteed 18 games.

Q: How long are the games?
A: Two periods. First period 20 minutes, second period 25 minutes with a flood before each game. The last 30 seconds of the first period and last 3 minutes of the second period are stop time.
Q: How do I register?
A: Click on Mens Winter 2009-10 Application Form .    Print, complete and mail in the form.
